The reason that sleep deprivation in some people can be so much worse than in others is because some people can easily get back into their sleep cycle, like myself, whereas others can find it incredibly difficult and end up sleeping all day and waking up at night.
But what actually is a "sleep cycle"?
Your sleep cycle, simply put, is your hours of when you sleep and when you wake up.
For example, my usual sleep cycle is going to sleep at 11PM and waking up at 10AM. Since I require more than the usual 8 hours for my body to rest, I feel that it's best if I go to bed earlier so that I'm not waking up too much later the next day.
Refreshing your sleep cycle
If you've just pulled an all-nighter and are on the brink of falling back asleep at 10AM, don't even think about it! Literally, don't think about it, that will just make you want to sleep even more. Instead, the bad news is that you now need to wait all day until, say, 11PM or whenever you want your new sleep cycle to start, before falling back asleep.
So, all-nighters can be useful for refreshing broken sleep cycles, but they are often very difficult to do unless you are constantly distracted, walking about, watching an actually interesting and entertaining movie, etc.
Sleeping log
Some professionals suggest printing off a week-long table from Monday (or Sunday, but let's not get into that debate) - Friday with the headings of each days at the top and on the left column have what times you went to bed and woke up.
Every day, try to make an improvement and see how you did at the end of the week.
